What caught
your attention?

A bird you keep noticing. A neighbor making room for nature. A question you wish someone would answer.

I’m Eliz, the founder and editor of Backyard Bird Haven. I welcome story ideas and observations from coastal Maine, the DC area, and the places our readers call home. You don’t need to be an expert to have something worth sharing.

01 / A story worth telling

Start with a local idea.

Tell me about a person, place, or question that deserves a closer look. Include your town or region, a few sentences about the idea, and any useful public links. A finished article isn’t necessary.

02 / A detail to revisit

Help me get it right.

If something needs correcting, send the page link, the passage you’re asking about, and a source if you have one. Questions and corrections help make the publication more useful.

03 / From your own view

Share a photograph or field note.

Send a photograph you took or a short observation in your own words. Include the approximate date, general location, what you noticed, and how you’d like to be credited. It’s fine to be unsure of the bird’s name.

Share an observation ↗

Before anything appears here.

Sending an idea or photograph starts a conversation. I’ll confirm permission, any edits, and your preferred credit with you before publication. You keep ownership of your work. Submission does not guarantee publication or payment; any commissioned work would be agreed separately.

Please share only your own work, and check before including identifiable people or private property. A town or general area is enough. Leave out home addresses and precise nest locations.

I read contributions as part of this independent project and may not be able to respond to every message. Contacting me does not sign you up for a newsletter.
